CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – East Lake residents are safe after their dog alerted them of a fire in the house.

At 4:46 AM Thursday, the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 4800 block of 16th Avenue.

The occupants were asleep when they heard their dog barking and smelled smoke. It was then discovered the front of their home was on fire.

The residents evacuated safely with their pets and there are no injuries.

When CFD arrived, they found the flames coming from the front porch and a front bedroom.

Crews worked until the fire was out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
