Middlesbrough have kickstarted their search for a new manager with a kitty boosted by approximately £3-4million in compensation received for Rob Edwards.

Edwards has been appointed Wolves head coach after being stood down by Middlesbrough from his dugout duties at the weekend. Adi Viveash led Boro to a 2-1 win over Birmingham City at the Riverside.

The Times say Wolves will pay Boro £3-4m in compensation for Edwards who was only appointed in June.

Steven Gerrard has been linked with the vacancy but Boro are one of four Championship clubs searching for a new manager at the same time.

Norwich City, Southampton and Swansea City are also in the market for new managers after sacking Liam Manning, Will Still and Alan Sheehan respectively.
