Wagner College defeated Central Connecticut 2-1 in double overtime Sunday in the Northeast Conference women’s soccer championship game and earned the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth.

Freshman Riley Frederick scored in the 104th minute off a feed from sophomore Deirdre Meberg to send the Seahawks to the NCAA Tournament. They will play at West Virginia Friday at 7 p.m.

The host Seahawks (11-2-6 overall) were down 1-0 after nine minutes. In a steady rain, Wagner’s pressure finally paid off in the 58th minute when Meberg scored with Izzy Gomez and Caroline Kessler assisting.

Wagner keeper Abigail Marcello (one save) picked up the win. Wagner did not allow a shot on goal over the final 65 minutes.

Wagner outshot Central 22-5 and had a 9-2 edge in corners.
