CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Cincinnati Public Schools officials met with community members Wednesday evening to discuss the district’s upcoming budget, highlighting financial challenges that could impact funding despite rising property taxes.
CPS District Treasurer Michael Gustin opened the meeting by presenting a target budget figure of $634,200 for the 2026-2027 school year.
Community members questioned why increasing property taxes wouldn’t boost the school district’s budget. Gustin explained the state’s funding formula creates a balancing effect.

“We get more local revenue but the way the state funding formula works, the state recognizes that the district has more wealth, so the state aid decreases,” Gustin said.
