The coal miner, missing since Saturday following a flooding incident in the Rolling Thunder coal mine in Nicholas County, has been found dead, according to Gov. Patrick Morrisey.
"At approximately 6:00 a.m. this morning," Morrisey posted on X at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, "water levels inside the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County had receded sufficiently for rescue crews to safely enter. The team began their search, examining every section as they advanced underground.
"At 7:37 a.m.," the post continues, "one two-man team located the body of the missing miner, foreman Steve Lipscomb."
According to a media release from Morrisey, crews had worked around the clock in 12-hour shifts during the search.
