A coal miner from Kanawha County missing since Saturday following a flooding incident at the Alpha Metallurgical Resources, Inc.-controlled Rolling Thunder coal mine in Nicholas County, has been found dead, Gov. Patrick Morrisey and Alpha announced Thursday morning.
"At approximately 6:00 a.m. this morning," Morrisey posted on X at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, "water levels inside the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County had receded sufficiently for rescue crews to safely enter. The team began their search, examining every section as they advanced underground.
"At 7:37 a.m.," the post continues, "one two-man team located the body of the missing miner, foreman Steve Lipscomb."
