NORTH COLLEGE HILL, Ohio (WXIX) - North College Hill’s former police chief sued the city in federal court Wednesday, alleging wrongful termination and age and race discrimination.

Ryan Schrand contends in court records he was put on leave in March 2024 “for no lawful reason” at the insistence of Mayor Tracie Nichols, “who is an African American female.”

An investigation of him conducted by the mayor and the city’s top administrative official, Arious Dukes Dean, according to the suit,“ who is also an “African American female” resulted “in no credible facts which would have confirmed his placement on an involuntary administrative leave.”

Dukes-Dean, however, cited a lack of confidence in his leadership when he was fired effective May 21.
