The superintendent of Middletown Public Schools is under scrutiny following his arrest in Florida over the summer on driving under the influence charges.

Alberto Vázquez Matos, 51, was also accused of having a driver’s license in both Florida and Connecticut when he was issued a citation on July 29, according to Hillsborough County Clerk of Courts records.

Records show he was given the citation at 11:25 p.m. by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office after he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. The citation says the refusal would lead to Matos’ driver’s license being suspended for a year.

According to the clerk records, Matos has pleaded not guilty. Records also show he had a scheduled court hearing last week but that he requested a new date.
