EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) conducted a full-scale mass casualty training exercise at the county jail over the weekend.

EPCSO said the annual exercise is a critical component of their American Correctional Association (ACA) certification requirements and helps identify future training, equipment, and procedural needs.

According to EPCSO, the simulated scenario began in the facility’s laundry room, where a large fire led to multiple casualties and serious injuries.

Role players from across the sheriff’s office portrayed injured staff and incarcerated citizens with a wide range of medical conditions during the exercise.
