GONZALES, La. (WAFB) - An investigation is underway after officials say they found toxic chemicals and illegal drugs consistent with a clandestine lab while responding to a medical call.

According to the Gonzales Police Department, officers were called to a house on East Hamilton Street on Wednesday, Nov. 12, where a person was reported to be unresponsive on the floor.

The man was taken to the hospital, where police say he remains in critical condition.

During their initial investigation, officers allegedly spotted multiple items consistent with manufacturing drugs in plain view.

According to police, detectives identified a substantial amount of potentially toxic chemicals and substances commonly associated with the illegal production of controlled substances.
