Parents from the Newark School of the Arts are looking forward to a town hall-style meeting at the 57-year-old weekend and after-school performing arts academy on Saturday, hoping to learn why the school abruptly shut down and laid off its entire faculty last month.
“The worst-case scenario is that [the] school doesn’t reopen, but we’re at least looking for some accountability,” said Jona Cosio-Tarife, a Nutley mom who plans to attend the meeting.
Cosio-Tarife, 43, an immigration lawyer with the Legal Aid Society in New York, said her 12-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son had studied piano, voice and music theory at NSA for more than three years before the shutdown canceled their Nov. 1 classes.
