House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) blasted Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for sending lawmakers home for a “taxpayer-funded vacation” during the government shutdown.

The government reopened late Wednesday night after six weeks, marking the end to the longest shutdown in U.S. history. The shutdown ended after eight Democratic senators sided with Republicans to end the shutdown despite getting no guarantees for extending Affordable Care Act subsidies expiring at the end of the year.

On Thursday, Jeffries criticized Senate Democrats for siding with Republicans and mocked Johnson for his shutdown strategy on MSNBC’s “Way Too Early with Ali Vitali.” Host Ali Vitali asked Jeffries whether there was “acrimony” with his relationship with Johnson in the wake of the shutdown.
