Earlier this year, Red Robin, the burger chain known for its gourmet burgers and bottomless steak fries, announced plans to close dozens of locations by year’s end and 70 within the next five.
However, while dozens of locations still remain on the chopping block, a spokesperson told MassLive the total number of closures has since decreased.
“In Q2, Red Robin shared that efforts are working and Red Robin plans to close fewer restaurants than it previously guided earlier this year,” a spokesperson told MassLive Thursday, saying about 20 restaurants have been removed from the chopping block “because of improved performance and profitability.”
This still leaves about 50 locations for closing consideration.
