The court proceedings for a commercial truck driver charged with killing three people in a Florida crash in August will continue into next year.

Harjinder Singh appeared before a St. Lucie County judge on Thursday.

Investigators say he attempted an illegal U-turn on Florida’s Turnpike on August 12, leading to a deadly collision with a minivan.

Fallout from the crash led to a war of words between the Trump administration and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and new, stricter rules for non-citizens to obtain commercial drivers licenses.

Singh is charged with vehicular homicide and manslaughter and has pleaded not guilty.

His attorneys requested a continuation until January to prepare for trial.

Singh appeared remotely from jail, communicating through a Punjabi interpreter.
