Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson was hospitalized on Wednesday, a social justice group he founded reported.

According to a statement from the Rainbow Push Coalition, Jackson, 84, is currently under observation for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

The statement said Jackson has been dealing with the condition for over a decade. He was initially believed to have Parkinson’s disease, but was diagnosed with PSP back in April.

“The family appreciates all prayers at this time,” the statement said.

According to the Mayo Clinic, PSP is a rare brain disease that affects walking, balance, eye movements and swallowing. The disease is caused by damage to brain cells that control movement and coordination.
