WASHINGTON — Verizon is planning to cut as many as 15,000 jobs, according to multiple media outlets.

The telecommunications provider will lay off about 15% of its workforce as it aims to slash cuts, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The layoffs are reportedly the largest job cuts for the company and could begin as early as next week.

FOX Business reported that the positions being cut are non-unionized. The company is also planning to transition about 200 stores into franchised operations, shifting employees from its payroll, according to WSJ.
