WAVELAND, Miss. (WLOX) - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) is inviting everyone to celebrate America’s 250 years of freedom at one of seven Mississippi State Parks hosting big Fourth of July weekend events this Independence Day.

From star-spangled cookouts to live music and fireworks over the water, Mississippi State Parks are the place to be for a weekend of red, white, and blue fun in South Mississippi.

Locally, a major celebration will take place at Buccaneer State Park in Waveland.

Nearby in the Pine Belt, another celebration will take place at Paul B. Johnson State Park, just south of Hattiesburg.
