British journalist and commentator Sami Hamdi has called his detention “an attack on the freedoms of ordinary Americans” after he returned to the UK. Hamdi was held by ICE for more than two weeks while on a speaking tour around the country. At the time, US immigration authorities told Hamdi he was detained after overstaying his US visa. Hamdi and his legal team said he was in the US on a valid visa.
