LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Philander Smith University has received an unrestricted $19 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, marking the largest single contribution in the university’s 147-year history.
Since the donation is unrestricted, it gives the University flexibility to determine the best way to use these funds for long-term impact.
“This gift is a resounding vote of confidence in our mission and our momentum,” said Dr. Maurice D. Gipson, President and CEO of Philander Smith University. “It positions us to invest boldly in student success, facilities enhancement, and programs that prepare the next generation of Philander Smith leaders. We are profoundly grateful for this transformational support, which allows us to move Philander First with renewed purpose and vision.”
