EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — East Hartford’s Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field earned a national reputation during its early days as one of the toughest venues in college football for road teams to play.
For avid UConn football fans, it seems like yesterday that former star Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III gave the Huskies’ faithful the highest praise that could come from any opposing player.
Less than three months after winning the 2011 Heisman Trophy, RGIII described what it was like to take on UConn at Rentschler Field.
“When we played at UConn my freshman year, that was the loudest place I’ve ever been as a football player,” Griffin said. “The stands are right next to the field, it was packed, and everyone was yelling.”
