The FBI set off a social media firestorm after former Fox News host Tucker Carlson had pressed the agency over Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old who attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump in 2024.
Carlson, in a post on X Thursday, claimed the FBI said that Crooks “somehow had no online footprint,” going on to declare, “The FBI lied, and we can prove it because we have his posts.”
“The question is why?” Carlson asked as he teased a new episode released Friday of “The Tucker Carlson Show,” in which he argued that the FBI “doesn’t want us to know” about Crooks or his motive.
His post prompted the FBI’s new “rapid response” account to quickly respond, throwing cold water on Carlson’s claim: “This FBI has never said Thomas Crooks had no online footprint. Ever.”
