WASHINGTON — The infant botulism outbreak linked to ByHeart baby formula has grown to 23 cases across 13 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday, marking an increase of eight new illnesses since the last update earlier this week.

All eight of the newly reported infants were hospitalized and treated with antitoxin BabyBIG. Michigan was added as a newly affected state.

As of Nov. 14, the outbreak includes infants with suspected or confirmed infant botulism ranging in age from 16 to 200 days. All of the previously reported infants were also hospitalized and treated with BabyBIG, and no deaths have been reported.

Of the 22 infants with available demographic information, 10 are female, the CDC said. Illness onset dates range from Aug. 9 to Nov. 11.
