MARYVILLE, Ill. (First Alert 4) - A couple who met in water aerobics class at the Maryville YMCA decided to get married in the same pool where their romance began.
Edward LaRue, 82, and Marlene Parsons, 78, exchanged vows in the water this week, surrounded by friends, family and a lifeguard.
“I liked him,” Parsons said about their first meeting.
Both had lost their longtime spouses six years earlier and were hesitant about remarrying.
“We really didn’t want to get married because we had both lost someone,” Parsons said.
LaRue took Parsons on their first date on December 5, 2023, and proposed in August of that year. Parsons waited until this year to give him an answer.
The aquatics director suggested the unique wedding venue after obtaining her minister’s license.
