LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Some leaders in Kentucky's hemp industry are rallying against a federal ban that will remove most hemp, CBD and THC products from store shelves nationwide.
The ban passed as part of a government spending bill that ended a 43-day shutdown.
Now, industry leaders said they have one year to convince Congress to draft and sign new, regulatory legislation for the hemp industry before the ban takes effect.
The ban, which establishes a 0.4-milligram THC per container limit, was included as a "rider" amendment, penned by U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), in the massive funding bill to reopen the government.
It will effectively eliminate hemp-derived gummies, oils and other products used for health and wellness when it takes effect next November.
