A 52-year-old crossing guard killed by a dump truck Thursday is being remembered as a loving husband and stepfather who took great pride in keeping kids safe on their way to and from school.
Keith Brewster was gearing up for his usual afternoon shift at Mohawk Road East and Upper Wentworth Street — one of the city’s busiest intersections — when the dirt-hauling truck ran him over around 2:30 p.m.
He died on scene.
Hamilton police said the truck was heading east on Mohawk before it turned right onto Upper Wentworth and struck the crossing guard.
Speed is not considered a factor in the crash, according to Const. Adam Kimber, who said on Thursday that the truck driver remained on scene and co-operated with police. No charges have been laid.
