The Musketeers have gotten off to a rather uninspiring start in head coach Richard Pitino’s first season at the helm of the program.

Xavier beat Marist and Le Moyne by a combined nine points. Then the Musketeers got boatraced in their own building by Santa Clara in a 19-point loss. So this early-season test for Iowa no longer has the shine that it once appeared to have.

But Iowa coach Ben McCollum did not let Xavier’s loss to Santa Clara cloud how he views the Musketeers.

“They’re big, talented, physical,” McCollum said. “They’re a lot better than their last score indicated, in my opinion. They’re just trying to find themselves out — probably like everybody is this time of year. Just don’t have as many returners as most. So,
