MACON, Ga. — After a six-week closure due to the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is once again welcoming visitors.

The shutdown not only closed the gates of the iconic park but also impacted its revenue, especially during the crucial October sales period.

The Ocmulgee Mounds , which rely heavily on income from their park store and other services to support cultural programs, typically generate significant revenue in October. This year, however, the shutdown led to lost opportunities during a key sales period.

"We don't know how that's gonna impact the next fiscal year as far as many programs and events," said Lisa Lemon, executive director of the Ocmulgee Mounds Association. "I think we're going to be fine. We had a lot of great
