LAURENS COUNTY, Ga. — Capt. Chris Bracewell picks up each coin carefully, turning it over in his hands. The simple act triggers something in his mind.

"When I pick up these things, I might not remember anything, but right when I pick it up, my mind starts clicking and I start remembering things," he said.

The coins and awards displayed on his wall tell the story of 38 years with the Laurens County Sheriff's Office . Among them sits the Kipp Brown Dedication Award - the last recognition he received before hanging up his uniform for good.

"These are all just years I served with the sheriff's office," Bracewell said.

However, a severe car accident in 2023 ultimately ended that career. The crash was so catastrophic that Bracewell said he died twice during treatment.
