SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A new Mexican supermarket opened Friday on the corner of Olive and Western avenues, providing fresh groceries to South Bend’s west side.
MorMex features fresh produce including coconuts, bananas and plantains, along with a frozen section containing arepas and maduros. The store includes an aisle of Spanish treats, a wall of chiles and a meat section.
“They had a variety of Mexican groceries that you can’t get at the regular stores,” said Paloma Garza, a shopper. “The meat looks great.”
The supermarket also houses a taqueria with seating for families to dine on Mexican cuisine.
Brandon Rocha, another customer, said he purchased carnitas during his visit. “You see them every now and then, but you don’t see them this good anywhere,” Rocha said.
