On the heels of campaign events with Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Ken Martin and U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX-30,) State Representative Aftyn Behn (D-Nashville) said her campaign could provide the "Democratic playbook" for the party to regain lost ground in southern states, if she should even come close to beating Matt Van Epps in the December 2 special election in Tennessee's 7th Congressional District.
While Republicans nominated Van Epps by comfortable margins after he was endorsed by President Donald Trump and Governor Bill Lee, Democrats turned out to vote in significant numbers, casting only about 5,000 fewer primary ballots than Republican voters in a district won by former U.S. Representative Mark Green in a 20-point landslide just last year.
