The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday submitted notice to U.S. District Court Judge Waverly Crenshaw, the appointee of former President Barack Obama who is overseeing the federal human smuggling case against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, that it intends to present evidence that the alleged human trafficker's purported affiliation with Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) helped facilitate a smuggling ring's business with the Central American gang. 

Acting U.S. Attorney Robert McGuire informed the court that the prosecution will seek to prove Abrego Garcia's alleged years-long association with MS-13 made helped his co-conspirators collect money.
