COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The longest government shutdown in U.S. history came to an end this week, but a Colorado Springs business said that does not mark the end of their efforts to help.
During the shutdown, more than 600,000 Coloradans saw a lapse in SNAP benefits. To supplement this, Care and Share Food Bank stepped up to help those impacted. This included asking some local businesses to collect food for those who needed it.
“We were thrilled to do it,” Kim Jackson, an employee at Terra Verde in downtown Colorado Springs, said.
Terra Verde is a clothing boutique and a staple of downtown, having been open for 33 years. The store is located across from Acacia Park and often sees heavy foot traffic, but Jackson said the large turnout was still a surprise.
