The collision happened around 1:40 a.m. near the intersection of West San Carlos and McEvoy streets, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release.
An initial investigation determined a man was driving a 2006 Toyota pickup truck westbound on West San Carlos Street when he hit a man crossing the roadway on foot, Hernandez said, adding that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Hernandez said.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s identity af
