SEATTLE — A former Tacoma attorney was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison Friday for embezzling more than $530,000 from a disabled client's trust fund over a 10-year period, all while falsely accusing her of overspending.
Colby Parks, 65, pleaded guilty to wire fraud for stealing from a woman who had been awarded approximately $1.66 million following a devastating motorcycle accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury and short-term memory loss. As her trustee, Parks was supposed to protect her settlement. Instead, he systematically plundered it.
"I had trusted him up until that point, and I was floored," said Carolyn, the victim, who spoke at the sentencing hearing at the federal courthouse.
