WACO, Texas — Mack Rhoades, Baylor University’s longtime athletic director known for rebuilding and rebranding the school’s once-fledgling sports scene, is making headlines, but not the kind that bring praise.
On Thursday, the university announced Rhoades had taken a leave of absence .
The leave, which began Wednesday, was initially described by Baylor as being for “personal reasons.” University officials provided few details Thursday, but Vice President Jason Cook said the allegations do not involve Title IX, student-athlete welfare, NCAA rules violations or the football program. Cook said the school is taking the claims seriously and is conducting a thorough review.
