MARYVILLE, Tenn. — A Maryville Police Department officer is hospitalized after a serious crash Friday evening involving a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper during a protective motorcade movement in Maryville.

The incident occurred at East Lamar Alexander Parkway and Merritt Road as law enforcement escorted Vice President JD Vance to a Republican National Committee fundraiser at Blackberry Farm. According to The Washington Post, the motorcade was traveling to the luxury resort for an event expected to raise at least $2.5 million for the RNC.

Vice President Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, were not injured, The Washington Post reported.
