At least nine people were killed and 29 others wounded after a large quantity of confiscated explosives went off inside a police station in Nowgam near Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir.
The blast occurred on Friday night while police officers and forensic team personnel were examining the explosive material, which had been recently brought from Faridabad in Haryana.
Most of the deceased were police and forensic officials; two senior officials from the Srinagar administration also died in the explosion.
Nowgam Police Station Cordoned Off
The injured have been taken to the Indian Army’s 92 Base Hospital and the Sher‑i‑Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences. The police station has been cordoned off and senior officials have reached the scene.
