More than 2,000 pounds of food was donated to a pantry in Hartford on Friday.

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, Hindu Yuva at UConn and Hoysala Kannada Koota held food drives last month and brought 2,430 pounds of food to M.D. Fox Elementary School on Maple Avenue.

“It's really important that I'm making sure that everyone kind of gets a fair and equal chance to something as basic as right as having food security," Aditi Malpure, president of Hindu Yuva at UConn, said.

The Village for Families and Children, a social service agency, runs the food pantry there that serves students and their families.

This is the second year these groups have made this massive donation. Last year, their donation helped 200 families facing food
