Travellers are advised to be extra cautious during holidays due to increasing worries about poisoning incidents. MoneySuperMarket experts have issued new guidance after the Foreign Office added eight additional countries to its methanol warning list last month .

Methanol, or wood alcohol, is a transparent, flammable liquid found in items like paint and antifreeze. Occasionally, it is illegally added to alcoholic beverages and cocktails at bars to reduce costs. This practice is highly dangerous, as even small amounts can lead to serious, permanent harm—such as blindness or death—within 48 hours.
