WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Is it easy to drive in Wichita? A new survey claims that the city’s average commute is one of the fastest in the U.S., at least compared with the national average.
Recently, the American Community Survey reported that the average commute for a Wichitan is about 18 minutes. This is nearly four minutes faster than the national average and the fastest among the 100 largest U.S. cities.
The average commute is fast despite Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO) estimates that about 100,000 vehicles travel on Kellogg every day, and another 80,000 travel on I-135.
WAMP Executive Director Chad Parasa said the relatively easier commutes in Wichita can be in large part attributed to the team that designed the city.
