CERRITOS – On a wet and rainy night, Valley Christian High found a way to make enough plays to defeat Warren High 10-7 in the CIF Southern Section Division 9 quarterfinals on Friday.

As if the rain and wet field weren’t enough obstacles for the Defenders (9-3), they were dealt another blow as starting quarterback Graham Lunzer was out due to a fractured leg he suffered in the first round of the playoffs last week.

However, backup quarterback Liam Sweeney proved to be a capable game manager, finishing with 39 passing yards and 18 rushing yards, while Valley Christian also leaned on running back Cole Hefner who had 35 carries for 63 yards as well as two catches for 14 yards.
