Friday night, straddling halftime, the Mustangs’ offense went kaboom twice. First, on a scintillating, ankle-breaking, 39-yard scramble by senior quarterback Jason Lajara, and then a breathtaking 88 yard, second-half kickoff return by senior Na’zeer Whittaker. The two scores took a total of 14 seconds.

Brick Memorial blasted past Middletown North, 28-0, in the Central Jersey Group 4 final in Brick Township.

Brick Memorial (10-2), ranked No. 20 in the NJ.com Top 20, set multiple school records and posted its first shutout of the season. It was the program’s third sectional title and first since 2008.
