India captain Shubman Gill left the field due to injury during the opening session of Day 2 in the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The incident occurred shortly after he hit a boundary off Simon Harmer, following his arrival at the crease after Washington Sundar’s dismissal.

Gill appeared uncomfortable as soon as he completed the shot and held the back of his neck. The team physio assessed him on the field, but the captain soon walked off, retiring hurt and making way for Rishabh Pant.

Later in the session, the BCCI issued an official update stating that Gill is under the supervision of the medical team. His availability for the remainder of Day 2 will depend on how quickly he responds to treatment.
