A New Market man has filed to run as a Republican in the 2026 Frederick County Council primary race for District 2, with a focus on lowering the county government’s spending.

Kai Burhans, 25, said in an interview that the county government has grown in size and increased spending and taxation while providing less efficient services since its charter was adopted in 2014.
