In the wake of increasingly sophisticated online scams affecting communities across Canada, regional law-enforcement agencies are pressing residents to keep cybersecurity front of mind. Staff Sergeant Kevin Kavanagh of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Cyber and Financial Crime Unit speaks to Southeastern, Manitoba residents about new tools to fight fraud and the importance of rapid reporting.
Local tool simplifies fraud reporting
Kavanagh explains that although Canadians have long had access to the Canadian Anti‑Fraud Centre, the new portal now streamlines reporting across multiple agencies.
“With the amalgamation of the National Cybercrime Coordination Centre and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, we now have one reporting portal for cyber-enabled fraud and fraud,” he explains.
