More than two dozen parents voiced their opposition Thursday night to a new student group created at Royal Oak High School.
A Turning Point USA student club held its first meeting on Monday and parents came to the Royal Oak school board meeting to demand the district take action and ban the chapter from further activities.
Turning Point was founded in 2012 by conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed during a rally at a Utah college in September. According to the organization’s website, over 1,000 high schools nationwide have Turning Point clubs or chapters.
According to the site, the clubs “promote freedom loving, American values” and “students champion these initiatives by organizing into student led chapters and activism hubs”.
