The Christmas season kicks off downtown with the lighting of the community tree on Thursday.
Mustang Sally, from Korah Collegiate and Vocational School, performs in front of the courthouse on Queen Street East at 6:30 p.m. The tree will be lit, with help from Mayor Matthew Shoemaker at 7 p.m., a release says. Santa Claus and Mr. Bon Soo, from Ontario Winter Carnival Bon Soo, will also attend. Carnival merchandise will be for sale.

Downtown store will be open until 9 p.m. Soo Market also welcomes shoppers. Queen Street East will be closed from Pim to Dennis streets starting at 4 p.m. North and south cross streets will stay open.
