Sports minister Rekha Arya stated that the addition of Yoga as an event for the first time in the 38th National Games was a significant achievement for both Uttarakhand and the nation. While inaugurating the Shanti Yoga Dham Championship here on Saturday, she said that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated for Yoga on a global scale, its influence has now extended from Asia to Africa, Europe and America.

Yoga has evolved into not only India’s cultural legacy but also a universal message for health, she said, while expressing optimism on the chances of Yoga being eventually recognised as a sport too in international competitions, including the Olympics.
