SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- With last week’s release of her fourth children’s book, Shaker’s own Clothilde Ewing continues the farewell tour for her spunky little heroine Stella and sidekick Roger.
A big part of that involved the author returning home for a few whistlestops this week, first at her alma maters, Boulevard Elementary and Shaker Heights High School (Class of ’96) to promote " Stella and Roger Are on the Move ."
“I think it’s important for kids to see and read about central characters who happen to be Black,” Ewing said in a phone interview from Chicago. “But at the same time, race is not centralized in the stories.”
Ewing recalls that rare occasion in 2018 where she actually got through the entire Sunday edition of the New York Times and came upon a pivotal opinion piece.
