A Ridgefield man was arrested after Little Ferry police said they found two guns, cash, and bags of marijuana during a Friday morning, Nov. 14, traffic stop.
Little Ferry Officer James Serio was patrolling the area of Route 46 and Grand Street at 10:45 a.m. when he saw a 2013 Chrysler 300 with dark-tinted windows throughout, Little Ferry Police Chief James Walters said. Serio stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, identified as Jeremiah Turner, who said he was coming from Garfield and going to his girlfriend’s home in Ridgefield.
Serio reported a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When the officer asked Turner how much marijuana he had, Turner said he had "user amounts" of marijuana and began to open a red backpack on the passenger seat without being prompted, Walters said. Serio allowed him to do so and did not stop him.
Police said Turner removed three sandwich bags filled with a green vegetative substance believed to be raw marijuana. He then took out numerous empty plastic sandwich bags as well as a scale, which was covered in a green vegetative residue, all commonly used for distribution, authorities said. Officers also found over $1,500 in cash.
Serio asked Turner to step out of the vehicle. Little Ferry Officer Locameli arrived on scene. When asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle and if he was permitted to search it, Turner replied no to having anything illegal and yes to the search.
Serio said Turner appeared nervous. During the search, Serio found a pec scale and a large foil bag in the trunk containing raw marijuana, as well as items used for the packaging and transport of marijuana, including one bag labeled Cookies and Cream.
Inside the trunk, Serio also located two firearms: one was a Glock .43 40 cal and the other was a Beretta BB gun, both had magazines in them.
Turner was charged with several drug and weapons offenses at police headquarters then remanded to the Bergen County Jail.
